The History of Betley Court
Betley Court dates from 1716, when local attorney-at-law, John Craddock relocated to Betley and built a house on the site of ‘Saxon’s House’. In 1785, notable garden designer, William Emes, a confrère of ‘Capability’ Brown, created a picturesque landscape in the grounds of the House, which became the famous Betley Court Gardens.
During World War Two, Betley Court served as an orthopedic unit for recuperating servicemen. Then, in the early days of the NHS, the House became Betley Court Rehabilitation Centre (1948-1965).
The House stood empty for 13 years, until the Brown family bought it in 1977, and lovingly restored it. It remains within the Brown family to this day.

The House accommodates up to 20 guests across six beautifully refurbished luxury apartments. Each has been thoughtfully designed with its own character and refined detailing, blending timeless architecture with contemporary comfort. Guests can enjoy privacy within their own space, while still feeling part of the shared experience of the house. A minimum stay of two nights ensures you have the time to settle in and truly unwind.
Flexible dining and thoughtful hosting
Guests are welcome to self-cater within the shared kitchen or their apartment kitchenettes for a relaxed, informal stay. For more formal occasions, a professional catering kitchen is available by prior arrangement.
Those choosing to work with our trusted catering partner, will have use of the catering kitchen included within their service. Alternatively, external caterers can be arranged with advance agreement. Our team will guide you through the options with clarity and ease, ensuring every detail feels seamless.
